Time and History
Dialectics of Time in Saint Augustine
Abstract
Saint Augustin is the author of an original and very influential discussion on time. In his Confessions he puts forward the famous aporia about time according to which we know what time is, but when we are asked we do not know how to defne it. In his Te City of God, our main focus here, we fnd a historical conception of time in a dialectical perspective that strongly influenced modern thought.
