Abstract

This study departs from the absence of monogamy as a research subject in the field of psychoanalysis. We consider the possibility of such absence a defense against the anxiety generated by the primary states of passivity, to which romantic relationships take us. Based on the laplanchean notes about the unconscious, we question how the theme of monogamy appears in Freud’s work. We think monogamy as an easy path because of its relevance in our culture, appointing to the fact that, ultimately, regardless of the form of relationship chosen, the conflict will never cease to exist due to the constitutive split of the subject.
