Trauma of racism and artistic resistance:
a psychoanalytical reading
Abstract
This work seeks to address the mechanisms present in the constitution and maintenance of structural racism, as well as its subjective implications for black individuals. Using psychoanalysis as a theoretical framework, it is exposed how the daily experience of racial violence causes trauma and psychological suffering in such individuals, and how they can develop resistance strategies. Resistance is understood as a behavior of subversion to the dominant hegemony and as a possibility of practicing oneself. This work specifically addresses resistance through music.
