Who believes in the death instinct?
One hundred years of psychoanalytic research
Abstract
Answering the proposed question “who believes in the death instinct?” a consideration is made about the text “Beyond the pleasure principle” by differentiating two hypotheses: that the psyche can operate outside the pleasure principle and that of an instinctual dualism opposing life and death drives. The belief in both and the use of each of them are discussed separately.
